In anticipation to opening the doors of the Mohawk Valley Freedom School, we will start a reading and discussion group on the book Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Brazilian literacy educator, scholar, and activist Paulo Freire. Although the book was first published in 1968 it is as relevant and crucial to our understanding of education, and our place in the world as it was in the late 1960s. Freire’s philosophy has shaped the development of a number of Freedom School projects today. The idea of forming a reading group on this text was suggested by Freedom School organizer and high school student Marquis Palmer. Are you interested in joining us? If so, please contact Brendan at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (315) 732-2382. Please stay updated on our website for details about when the reading group will start. Finally, here is some information from the website dedicated to the book.
